WHAT TYPES OF YARN DO YOU PRODUCE?
FilSpecTM is a manufacturer of yarns using processes for short fibre. Our raw material is generally made of short natural or synthetic fibers 30 mm (1.25″) to 57 mm (2.25″) long. Upon request, we can add a continuous filament inside the yarn, like a spandex filament to make your yarn elastic, a fiberglass filament to make it stronger, or a metal filament.
WHO ARE YOUR CLIENTS?
We serve an industrial customer base that includes manufacturers of protective and athletic clothing, gloves, stockings, textiles for the automotive and aeronautics markets, for outdoor furniture, etc. using knitters, weavers, manufacturers of narrow fabrics and ropes, dyeing mills, twisting companies, and sewing thread manufacturers. Production runs and minimum shipments for each client are typically larger than 3,000 LB (1500 kg).
WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN
A YARN AND A FILAMENT?
Essentially, a yarn is made from short fibres (such as cotton, polyester, or viscose fibres) spun together into a continuous thread. A filament, on the other hand, comes from an industrial process that consists of extruding a continuous filament from a liquid polymer.
The filament maker can, if desired, cut it into short fibres, which makes it possible to combine those fibres during the process with other fibres to create blends; or simply spin the cut fibres in order to change the yarn’s properties.
Yarn and filament have different properties based on how they are manufactured. The choice of whether to use a filament or yarn depends on the knitter or weaver and on the properties required for its product (softness, strength, appearance, etc.)
HOW LONG DOES DELIVERY TAKE?
Delivery times depend on various factors. If the desired product is in inventory, we can ship it immediately. If the product is not in inventory but is currently in production, it will be shipped in a few days. However, generally speaking, the production cycle is about four weeks for single yarn and five weeks for ply yarn.
WHERE DO YOU DELIVER?
We can ship anywhere in the world, either delivered to our factory, or to yours. We ship weekly to Canada and the United States, and deliver regularly to Mexico, Latin America, Europe, and Asia.
WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN
A SINGLE YARN AND A PLY YARN?
A ply yarn is made of two or more strands of single yarn twisted together. This requires an additional process. Ply yarn is stronger and, naturally, larger than single yarn. It is also possible to twist multiple disparate yarns together in order to get a different appearance or properties.
WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN
REGULAR AND REVERSE TWIST?
In ring spinning, yarn is produced by applying a twist on the fibre roving. Regular twist yarn looks like a barbershop pole. If you look at the yarn closely, you will see that the fibres are all slanted towards the right. This is called “Z” twist because the direction of the fibres resembles that letter. The “Z”-shaped twist is the regular kind.
In certain applications, a customer may require a reverse twist. The direction of the twist is then reversed at spinning. This is called reverse twist or “S” twist.
On the air jet system, the yarn has practically no twist whatsoever.
